Acceptable Use Policy
Acceptable Use Policy
SpamGate — Version 1.0 · Effective 22 July 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out the rules governing what you may and may not do with the SpamGate Chrome extension ("Extension"), published by Heuristicworks LLC ("Heuristicworks", "we", "us"). This AUP is incorporated by reference into the Terms of Use and the End User License Agreement. Capitalised terms not defined here have the meanings given in those documents.
Violation of this AUP may result in immediate suspension of your Pro subscription, permanent deactivation of your account, referral to law enforcement, and civil or criminal liability.
1. Scope
This AUP applies to:
- All users of the SpamGate Extension (Free and Pro Tier)
- Any person installing or using the Extension on any device
You are responsible for all use of the Extension on any device where you have installed it.
2. Permitted Uses
The Extension is designed and licensed for the following purposes:
- Creating Gmail filter rules to route unwanted sender email addresses or domains to Trash, Spam, or the archive (Junk)
- Retroactively applying those filter rules to existing inbox messages in your own Gmail account
- Managing your Gmail inbox to reduce unsolicited or unwanted email
- Upgrading, managing, or cancelling a Pro Tier subscription
All use must be for your own Gmail inbox, or for inboxes you are explicitly authorised to manage (e.g. as a corporate IT administrator managing company-owned devices under a written organisational policy). Use must at all times comply with applicable law, Google's Terms of Service, and the Gmail API terms of service.
3. Prohibited Uses
3.1 Misuse of Gmail API Access
You must not use the Extension to:
(a) Access, read, modify, or delete email in any Google account that is not your own or that you are not explicitly authorised to manage;
(b) Intercept or monitor email communications of other individuals;
(c) Create filter rules intended to harm, harass, stalk, or cause economic damage to any sender, individual, or organisation;
(d) Use the OAuth token granted to the Extension to make Gmail API calls outside the Extension's intended functionality;
(e) Attempt to access the Gmail API on behalf of other users' accounts without their explicit authorisation.
3.2 Circumventing Tier Limits
You must not:
(a) Create multiple Google accounts to obtain additional Free Tier filter rule capacity;
(b) Use any technical means — including modified Extension builds, direct API calls, or browser automation — to bypass the 10-rule Free Tier limit;
(c) Share Pro Tier plan status or backend tokens with users who are not subscribed;
(d) Attempt to spoof or manipulate the Backend Service's plan status checks.
3.3 Payment and Billing Abuse
You must not:
(a) Provide false or fraudulent payment information when subscribing to the Pro Tier;
(b) Initiate chargebacks in bad faith after receiving Pro Tier access;
(c) Exploit any pricing error or billing system vulnerability to obtain Pro Tier access at an unintended price — you are required to notify support@heuristicworks.com promptly if you discover such an error;
(d) Use stolen payment credentials to subscribe.
3.4 Security and Infrastructure
You must not:
(a) Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of Heuristicworks' backend infrastructure (Cloudflare Workers, D1 database) without prior written authorisation. To report a security vulnerability responsibly, contact security@heuristicworks.com;
(b) Reverse engineer, intercept, or tamper with the Extension's API calls to the Backend Service or to the Gmail API;
(c) Introduce or transmit malicious code through any Extension interface;
(d) Conduct or facilitate denial-of-service attacks against the Backend Service, the Gmail API, or any Google infrastructure.
3.5 Harmful or Unlawful Activity
You must not use the Extension to:
(a) Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation;
(b) Facilitate or promote illegal activity of any kind;
(c) Conduct phishing, fraud, or social engineering against any person;
(d) Create filter rules designed to destroy evidence of criminal activity — for example, routing email from courts, regulators, or law enforcement agencies to Trash to evade legal process.
4. Responsible Use of Filter Rules
You acknowledge that:
4.1 Filter Rules Persist Until Removed. Filter Rules created by the Extension remain in your Gmail account until you or the Extension explicitly deletes them. Heuristicworks is not responsible for email messages moved, trashed, or archived as a result of Filter Rules you create.
4.2 Retroactive Actions Are Not Reversible by the Extension. Using the "Run Spam Rules on Inbox" function moves or trashes all matching existing inbox messages in bulk. The Extension does not provide an undo function for this operation. Messages moved to Trash by Gmail are permanently deleted by Gmail after 30 days. Review your Filter Rules carefully before running retroactive actions.
4.3 You Are Solely Responsible for Your Rules. You are solely responsible for the Filter Rules you create, including any unintended consequences such as legitimate messages being routed to Trash or Spam. Heuristicworks is not liable for loss of email caused by Filter Rules you create.
5. Chrome Web Store Compliance
Your use of the Extension must comply with the Google Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies. You must not use the Extension in ways that could cause Heuristicworks to lose access to the Chrome Web Store, or that could lead to the Extension's removal or suspension.
6. Enforcement
6.1 Actions We May Take
On detecting or receiving a credible report of a violation, Heuristicworks may take any of the following actions without prior notice:
| Severity | Actions |
|---|---|
| Minor | Warning email |
| Moderate | Temporary suspension of Pro Tier access |
| Serious | Permanent account deactivation; no refund of prepaid fees |

6.2 No Refund on Termination for Cause
Accounts deactivated for violation of this AUP are not entitled to a refund of any prepaid subscription fees, except where required by applicable law.
6.3 Appeal
If you believe your account was suspended or deactivated in error, you may appeal by emailing legal@heuristicworks.com within 14 days of the action, providing a detailed explanation.
